Hunting
Hunters will find many opportunities and plenty of variety
Your big game pursuits may take you after blacktail deer in the densely wooded Cascade Mountain Range, or your passion may lead you to the high desert sagebrush with juniper and pine trees, in search of thriving mule deer. Rocky mountain elk are also found in good numbers in Klamath Country. Other popular species include bear, cougar, turkey, varmints, coyotes, bobcats and antelope.
Klamath Country is often on a bird hunter’s “places to hunt before I die” list. There are 17 different duck species, four goose species, three huntable federal wildlife refuges, one huntable state wildlife refuge, part of a national forest in huntable wetlands and a 107 day waterfowl season on average in this part of the state. All are located in the heart of the Pacific Flyway. Whether you prefer field hunting for geese or taking your custom duck boat into the remoteness of one of several marshes, this is truly a waterfowler’s nirvana.
Valley quail, mountain quail, pheasant and chukar are available for the upland hunting enthusiast.
You’ll find Oregon a friendly place to hunt, with tags and hunts available to residents and nonresidents alike. Visit www.dfw.state.or.us for details on seasons, tags and licenses.
